Hands as Tools

Art for me is becoming
more primitive and raw, I have
put away most brushes,
most tools in favor of hands.

Hands are us, hands speak
the language we speak,
no need for translation,
interpretation, hands are
the most elemental way we
can express what comes
up, what comes out,
at least for me...

Hands show us where we
have been with their lines
and wrinkles and perhaps
where we are going?

Hands as tools...

  1. The hands are the first tools that a child explores...intuitively and playfully! My hands are my instruments guided by my muses and the age progression. My stitches are changing...not so small and exact. My marks are more immediate with less intensity as when I am sketching someone's per portrait. In Australia I was changed by the works of the Aboriginal artists as they wrote or documented their individual journeys with their hands. Have a great week in your studio lady. You ROCK! 2. Those are very artful tools! I use my hands a lot but then dislike the fact that they're stained for days! Oh well. My brother, a chef, uses his hands rather than tools in the kitchen all the time in ways that most cooks don't.

  4. They are our physical link between our bodies and everything else.....yours are always very powerful, they speak volumes to me, when they are green or not!

  6. I saw a video clip of Flora Bowley's online class where she took the fingertips of both her hands and squiggled her way from top to bottom of a large canvas. I have since then started incorporating the use of my fingers in painting. It is a nice touch, isn't it?

Your hands look nice in green. : )

  7. I'm impressed with your lovely paint laden hand. I only wish my hands would lie flat. If they weren't so deformed, I could also use them as a tool. BTW, I loved the blue palette from your previous post.

(I hope you took a print from it ;-)
